Seagull freed of beer can collar at SF State
Story posted 2010.12.13 at 07:47 AM PSTWildlife activists have removed a beer can collar shoved around the neck of a seagull, but more birds with the aluminum collars are still flying around the San Francisco Bay area.
Moss Landing's WildRescue says rescuers captured a young brown gull at San Francisco State during the weekend and cut off the beer container with scissors.
The San Francisco Chronicle says the bird was in good health and was released.
Wildlife group director Rebecca Dmytryk says the gull was the second bird freed from the beer can collars deliberately place around the necks of gulls from Half Moon Bay to San Francisco. At least five gulls have been spotted with beer cans around their necks since September.
