Schwarzenegger rips Republicans over pensions
Updated on: 2010-10-17 15:33:09
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger used his weekly radio address to criticize some fellow Republicans for what he said was their opposition to pension reform.
Schwarzenegger said during his address Saturday the state's most recent budget deal includes a number of pension reforms that will save $100 billion over what he termed "the decades to come."
But the governor also singled out four Republicans, state Senator Sam Blakeslee of San Luis Obispo and Bob Dutton of Rancho Cucamonga, as well as state Assemblyman Kevin Jeffries of Lake Elsinore and Assemblyman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley, for trying to block the reforms.
"Maybe these Republicans sold out simply because they got campaign contributions from the state prison guards union," Schwarzenegger said during the address.
Messages left at the offices of the four lawmakers on Saturday seeking comment were not immediately returned.
The governor also took a jab at Democrats, saying he expected opposition because "most Democrats are in bed with labor." During his address, Schwarzenegger did not criticize any specific Democrats.
The governor said he and other lawmakers were able to pass the reforms by calling a special session of the Legislature.
